At MAKE we dream big. And this dream took us to Ecuador, in this blog we will tell you a little more about our experience in the eCommerceDay of this country.

The eCommerceDay Ecuador, organized by the eCommerce Institute and the Ecuadorian Chamber of Electronic Commerce, CECE, took place from July 5 to 7.  Guido Boulay, General Manager of MailUp and Mario Andrés Ramos, Business Development Manager Colombia and Ecuador, of MailUp (our partner) invited us to attend.

During the event, we learned about trends in the digital and e-commerce sector, success stories, marketing campaigns, logistics and payment solutions were shared. For example:

  • The potential growth of total digital transactions. There was a growth from 2021 to 2022 and it is estimated that by the end of the year, Ecuador will have a growth of about 180% expressed in sales in millions of dollars.
  • Preference for the use of devices and channels to make purchases. The use of cell phones to make purchases increased by 10% compared to 58% in 2020. Social networks and WhatsApp are the preferred channels for making non-face-to-face purchases.
  • Payment method preferences. During 2022, users  choose to use credit cards as the best option for payment. It´s increased by 43% compared to 2020.

In addition, it has been enriching to learn about the contexts of different sectors, taking advantage of the digital ecosystem and eCommerce. Learn firsthand how Ecuadorian business people operate in sectors such as retail, tourism, and finance through digital channels and digital marketing.

The eCommerceDay gave us an approach to the context. We ratified that even though we are neighboring countries with a common culture, we are also diverse in terms of organizational culture, business challenges and communication and sales needs, in addition to the application of technology that is done in each one, in a different way.

We concluded our visit to Ecuador on a high note, with multiple meetings, face-to-face knowledge of the sector, the situation, and the firm decision to contribute our knowledge and experience.

Besides the PromPeru event, we visited some Ecuadorian companies and conversed with their managers about their digital marketing requirements.

We talked with representatives of CITEC and the Chamber of Commerce of Quito CCQ, about the lines of action as promoters of business and trade development.
